PARTNERS CONNECT WITH STUDENTS FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION
TORONTO – The Clean Air Partnership has joined a group of energy conservation leaders to deliver an education program that engages school-age children in energy efficiency behaviours, Eva Ligeti, Executive Director announced today.
Approximately 1,200 grade five students and their families will be participating in an innovative and comprehensive education program over the next few months that will provide them with a framework for changing their habits when it comes to energy conservation.
The curriculum of the PowerStream Energy Education Program is based on Ontario EcoSchools resource materials including several energy guides as well as the “20/20 The Way to Clean Air” campaign brochures. The use of these resources will enable teachers and students to complete energy reviews and action plans. Each student will also receive an “energy toolkit” from PowerStream to facilitate the lessons and exercises they need to do at home in conjunction with their parents.
The PowerStream Energy Education Program is a unique pilot project involving the largest electric utility in York Region, York Region District School Board, and York Catholic District School Board. Coordinated by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA), the program also involves Ontario EcoSchools, the Clean Air Partnership and York Region Health Services.
